Solar Capacity
The UK added approximately 2.9 GW of solar capacity over the 12 months ending Q3 2025, representing a 16% increase in capacity. Total solar capacity reached around 21 GW by Q3 2025. The third quarter alone saw significant additions including the 373 MW Cleve Hill solar farm, now the UK’s largest solar installation.
Wind Capacity
Over the 12 months ending Q3 2025, offshore wind capacity increased by 1.0 GW (6.1% growth) while onshore wind added modest capacity with 2.3% growth. Together these brought total wind capacity to approximately 32 GW.
Gas Capacity
The official government statistics for Q3 2025 show no significant change in gas-fired generation capacity. Gas generation in Q3 2025 was 18.8 TWh, which was 9.6% higher than Q3 2024, accounting for 29.5% of total electricity generation. This increase in gas generation was driven by the need to compensate for record low nuclear output due to maintenance outages, not by new capacity additions.
